WHAT IS TEAM COACHING?
It is the art of looking beyond the individual and focusing instead on the team.
One-to-one coaching is a powerful way to support any individual. Notwithstanding, sustainable change and success can often only be achieved if the system also adapts and supports them. As such, a truly effective coaching approach addresses not just the individual, but also the system.
Beyond Emotional Intelligence and Social Intelligence is the realm of Relationship Systems Intelligence (RSI) – relationship with the team. Team coaching focuses on RSI. Research indicates that individual performance is far more dependent on the team environment than had previous been believed and that high levels of RSI correlate closely with management effectiveness.
Team coaching integrates a wide range of dynamic exercises to stimulate team thinking, communication and the alignment necessary for the definition of, and commitment to, clear objectives and actions.
THE BENEFITS OF TEAM COACHING
Overall, the team will be more adept at balancing the short-term operational needs of the business with the longer term strategic agenda. The benefits are numerous and interdependent. Here are just a few:
✦ Greater clarity and support for the overall
organisational strategy and how it translates to
the team.
✦ Much stronger collaboration between leaders and,
by extension, better role-modelling.
✦ A robust, collective agreement on how the team will
operate.
✦ More open, authentic and productive communication.
✦ Higher levels of engagement, energy and creativity.
WHEN TO USE IT
There are numerous scenarios in which team coaching is highly effective. These are the most common:
✦ Challenging business objectives must be achieved!
✦ Before or after a re-structure, merger or acquisition.
✦ Strong collaboration is needed at several levels.
✦ The mission and strategy require full engagement.
✦ A new team has been created and/or a new leader
appointed.
✦ Performance is suffering from conflict, stress, fatigue,
poor communication, poor morale or resistance to
change.
